,Rabbits make wonderful pets when cared for properly and can be useful to individuals and families in many ways.
We have had our rabbits become therapy rabbits and enjoy their versatility very much. When you purchase a rabbit from us it goes home with a care sheet, hay and transition food.
At Oak Summit Farm we enjoy caring for our stock and practice the best animal husbandry techniques we know. At our farm we pride ourselves in quality stock, cleanliness, nutrition and routine care.
We feed our rabbits pellets made by a Vermont company called Poulin Grain, we are very happy with this feed and recommend it. Our rabbits grow well, produce well and look their best on these pellets. Protein content in your rabbits feed should be 16 or 18%, no more or less. We also feed 2nd or 3rd cut hay. This hay has a nice smell and does not have any hard stalks or sticks in it. You can get this from a farmer near you, ask for quality horse hay. Fresh water is also always available to our rabbits and should be available to all rabbits at all times.
Rabbits always need something to chew on because their teeth never stop growing. They love apple sticks, cardboard such as paper towel tubes and wood scraps. This is very important, always provide chewable toys. Rabbits like to be cool and aren't huge fans of the sun or heat, it can be really harmful or even fatal. Also, they must be kept free of draft, wind, and rain. Please use extreme caution when introducing any new treats. Stick with root vegetables and oats in moderation. They have very sensitive stomachs and can die from the wrong or to many treats. Rabbits thrive and live happily when properly cared for.
